CHAPTER 23: CONDITIONAL SUBJUNCTIVE

Adalah suatu bentuk kalimat pengandaian yang BERTENTANGAN dengan fakta sekarang, lampau maupun yang akan datang. Jika SUBJUNCTIVE-nya positive (+), maka FAKTA-nya negative (-) atau sebaliknya.
SUBJUNCTIVE WORD:
- Wish (Berharap)
- Would Rather (Lebih Suka)
- If Only (Jika Saja)
- As If / As Though (Seolah-Olah / Seakan-Akan)
JENIS-JENIS SUBJUNCTIVE:
- Present Subjunctive
- Past Subjunctive
- Future Subjunctive.

EXPLANATION:
***1. PRESENT SUBJUNCTIVE***
Digunakan untuk menyatakan hal yang bertentangan dengan fakta sekarang.
A. Present Subjunctive menggunakan WISH
Pola: S1 (subyek pertama) + wish/es (that) + S2 + V2 / were + V-ing + present time.
Fact: Simple Present/Present Continuous
E.g.
Pipik wishes she were teaching English now.
Fact: Pipik is not teaching English now.
Another example:
Pipik wishes she were here now.
Fact: She is not here now.
Another example:
I wish that Agnez were sitting in front of me now.
Fact: Agnez is not sitting in front of me now.
Another example:
I wish he protected me today.
Fact: He doesn’t protect me today.
B. Present Subjunctive menggunakan WOULD RATHER
Pola: S1 + would rather + S2 + V2 / were + V-ing + present time.
Fact: Simple Present/Present Continuous
E.g.
Pipik would rather Indah took a bath in the morning.
Fact: Indah doesn’t take a bath in the morning.
Another example:
I would rather my father stayed at home.
Fact: My father doesn’t stay at home.
Another example:
I would rather Abu become rich man now.
Fact: Abu doesn’t become rich man now.
C. Present Subjunctive menggunakan AS IF / AS THOUGH
Pola: S1 + V1/s/es + as if/as though + S2 + V2 / were + V-ing + present time.
Fact: Simple Present/Present Continuous
E.g.
Pipik sings as if she were Agnez Mo.
Fact: She is not Agnez Mo
Another example:
Indah acts as if she were stupid.
Fact: Indah is not stupid.
Another example:
Abu acts as if he were an actor now.
Fact: Abu is not an actor now.
D. Present Subjunctive menggunakan IF ONLY
IF ONLY dalam CONDITIONAL SENTENCE berpola: If only +S + V1, S + V
IF ONLY dalam CONDITIONAL SUBJUNCTIVE hanya memunculkan sub clause karena banyak mengandung kemungkinan. Polanya: If Only + S + V2
Fact: Simple Present/Present Continuous
E.g.
If only it didn.t rain today, I would go to your house.
Fact: It rain today so I don’t go to your house.
Another example:
If only Pipik went to Selayar, she would visit her parents.
Fact: Pipik doesn’t go to Selayar.
Contoh Perbedaan Kalimat Conditional Sentence dan Conditional Subjunctive:
Pipik would met president if only she went to Jakarta. (Conditional Sentence)
If Only Pipik went to Jakarta. (Conditional Subjunctive)

***2. PAST SUBJUNCTIVE***
Digunakan untuk menyatakan hal yang bertentangan dengan fakta di masa lampau.
A. Past Subjunctive menggunakan WISH
Pola: S1 (subyek pertama) + wish/es/wished (that) + S2 + had + V3 / had been V-ing + past time.
Fact: Simple Past/Past Continuous
E.g.
I wish/wished (that) Agnes had sat in front of me yesterday.
Fact: Agnes did not sit in front of me yesterday.
Another example:
I wish that Faris had written the lesson last night.
Fact: Faris did not write the lesson last night.
B. Past Subjunctive menggunakan WOULD RATHER
Pola: S1 (subyek pertama) + would rather + S2 + had + V3 / had been V-ing + past time.
Fact: Simple Past/Past Continuous
E.g.
I would rather Abu had sat in front of me yesterday.
Fact: Abu did not sit in front of me yesterday.
Another example:
He would rather you had spoken English yesterday.
Fact: You did not speak English yesterday.
C. Past Subjunctive menggunakan AS IF / AS THOUGH
Pola: S1 (subyek pertama) + as if/ as though + S2 + had + V3 / had been V-ing + past time.
Fact: Simple Past/Past Continuous
E.g.
Abu acted as if he had been an actor yesterday.
Fact: Abu was not an actor yesterday.
Another example:
Munir acted as if he had been a famous person two years ago.
Fact: Munir was not a famous person two years ago.
D. Past Subjunctive menggunakan IF ONLY
Pola: If Only + S + had / had been Ving + V3
Fact: Simple Past / Past Continuous
E.g.
If only it had not rained yesterday.
Fact: It rained yesterday.
Another example:
If only Damar had recited Alquran yesterday.
Fact: Damar did not recite Alquran yesterday.

***2. FUTURE SUBJUNCTIVE***
Digunakan untuk menyatakan hal yang bertentangan dengan fakta di masa depan, hanya menggunakan WISH dan HOPE (berharap).
A. Past Subjunctive menggunakan WISH
Pola: S1 (subyek pertama) + wish/es (that) + S2 + would / should + V1 + future time.
Fact: Simple Future/Future Continuous
E.g.
Ihsan wishes that Agnes would accompany him in the dinner tonight.
Fact: Agnes will not accompany him in the dinner tonight.
Another example:
Pipik wishes that she would be a reporter one year later.
Fact: Pipik will not be a reporter one years later.
B. Past Subjunctive menggunakan WOULD RATHER
Pola: S1 (subyek pertama) + hope/s (that) + S2 + will / shall / is, am, are going to + V1 + future time.
Fact: TIDAK ADA
E.g.
I hope that Agnes will accompany me in the dinner tonight.
Riana hopes that she will graduate from university this year.

MORE EXAMPLES
1. I wish that she were faithful.  
(Present subjunctive – She is not faithful)
2. She would rather her father came home today.
(Present subjunctive – Her father doesn’t come home today)
3. If only I were you.
(Present subjunctive – I am not you)
4. Bob speaks as though he didn’t know French well.
(Present subjunctive – Bob speaks and know French well)
5. Glen would rather he had got a job last year.
(Past subjunctive – He did not get a job last year)
6. I wish that she had called me yesterday.
(Past Sunjunctive – She did not call me yesterday)
7. If only she hadn’t got an accident last month.
(Past Subjunctive – She got an accident last month)
8. Rose danced as if she had been Julia Perez.
(Past subjunctive – Rose was not Julia Perez)
9. I wish that I would get married tomorrow.
(Future Subjunctive – I will not get married tomorrow)
